To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the CDC recommends everyone should:
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay 6 feet a part from others
  • Use a face shield to cover your mouth and nose when around others
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
Here at NHWC, we take pride in keeping our facility clean, disinfected and most importantly, safe. We also encourage others’ to be proactive to reduce transmission of the virus.
Here are eight ways to boost your body’s natural defense.
  1. Get enough sleep
Sleep and our immune system are closely tied. In fact, poor-quality sleep is linked to a high susceptibility to sickness. With a lack of sleep, not only do we mentally come off our game, our entire immune system does too.
In one study with 164 healthy adults it was found that those who slept fewer than 6 hours each night were more likely to catch a cold than those who slept 6 hours or more.
Getting a proper night’s rest is exactly what’s needed to strengthen your immune system. Think about it, when you are sick you tend to be tired and sleep even more. This is because your body is using all of your energy to fight off whatever virus is in your system. Therefore, if we are proactive and receiving 6 hours or more hours of sleep when we are not sick, then we are giving our system the extra boost of energy it needs to fight off a sickness at first contraction.
We recommend that adults should aim to get 6 or more hours of sleep at night, while teens need 8 to 10 hours and younger children and infants up to 14 hours of rest.
If you’re having trouble sleeping, read our article here over different treatment options  we provide. We also recommend to try limiting screen time for an hour before bed, as the blue light emitted from your technological devices may disrupt your circadian rhythm, which is a fancy way of saying your body’s natural wake-sleep cycle.
  2. Eat more whole-plant foods
Whole plant foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes are rich in nutrients and antioxidants that will give you the upper hand in battling harmful pathogens.

Antioxidants are the super power juice that helps fight off the evil super villain Free Radicals, which cause inflammation when they build up in your body.
An antioxidant’s sidekick boy wonder that we find in many of these whole plant foods is, Vitamin C.
  3. Eat more healthy-fats
An additional way to combat inflammation,
  4. Eat more fermented foods
  5. Engage in moderate exercise
  6. Stay hydrated
  7. Manage your stress levels
  8. Supplements
